Contact SellerChris-Craft is one of the longest-standing and most highly respected boat brands in the United States and globally. For over 150 years it has built a wide variety of boats including luxury sport boats, center consoles, and bowriders. Search for new and used Chris-Craft boats for sale, opting for either a newer model or a classic one. Refine your search by area, style, and price to find the perfect Chris-Craft boat.
Chris-Craft has a production list longer than almost any other boat builder in the world. Looking back over decades of different models, however, reveals one common theme; Chris-Craft remains dedicated to comfortable, luxurious sports boats.
Looking at today’s line-up, we see a culmination of all the models that came before it with five ranges offering over 20 different models. The Launch Series, Launch GT Series, and Sportster Series are the brand’s sterndrive ranges. The Launch Series (comprising the Launch 27) offers the classic open bowrider, while the GT versions (available as 25, 28, 31, and 35 models) have a more modern bow shape. Each one is inlaid with genuine teak that is handcrafted and caulked.
Other outboard ranges include the center console Catalina Series—available as elegant 24, 28, and 30 models—as well as the dual console Calypso Series. It has four current models in the series including the flagship of the series, the Calypso 35. It is cleverly designed with bow seating, a spacious cabin, cockpit galley, and a wealth of luxury features.
Looking at the used market, there are many excellent models to choose from. The Launch Series has been consistently popular for over 10 years, while mahogany classics dating back to the 1930s, 40s, 50s and 60s are still widely found. Discontinued lines such as Corsair, Tournament Fisherman, and Commander are also available.
There are few brands with as long a heritage as Chris-Craft. This American cultural icon was founded some 150 years ago in 1874 by the then 13-year-old Christopher Columbus Smith in Algonac, Michigan. It’s an impressive history that started when a young Smith built small punts and skiffs, which were instantly well-received. His fledgling business quickly grew with demand and, together with his brother Hank, they began full-time production of what would later become the classic runabout.
This first phase of the brand—which officially formed in 1910—was known as The Smith Ryan Boat Company, and it quickly grew along with demand for well-built, economically-priced production boats. It later changed to the Chris Smith & Sons Boat Company and Christopher’s son Jay Smith took over as President and General Manager. It was a role he would have for over three decades and see the brand rise to being one of the largest and most respected builders of mahogany powerboats.
Through turbulent times, including during the war when 12,000 support vessels were built for the US Navy and Army, Chris-Craft managed to survive. Indeed by 1955 it offered a staggering 139 different models.
Fast forward to 1971 and a major milestone in the brand’s history as it built its last mahogany boat, the 57-foot Constellation. Sport boats were now back on the agenda and fiberglass was creating waves in available construction methods.
Heading into the 21st century, Chris-Craft was purchased by an investment group, ending more than 100 years of family ownership. With added investment the brand expanded yet further, including Heritage models as well as a 43-foot yacht. The brand focuses on using cutting edge technology combined with hand-crafted features to create some of the most high-performance, luxurious sport boats on the market.
Today Chris-Craft—whose headquarters are now in Sarasota, Florida—remains one of the most highly respected brands in the world, renowned for its beautiful boats, traditional craftsmanship, and total comfort.
